Ana Yáñez-Correa, Ph.D.

Yáñez-Correa was born in Mexico and immigrated to the United States when she was 10. She earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, a Master of Public Administration, and a doctorate in policy and planning in education administration. In 2001, she served as chief of staff for a Texas state representative, and in 2002 she became policy director for the League of United Latin American Citizens of Texas. In 2005, Yáñez-Correa became director of the Texas Criminal Justice Coalition’s Solutions for Sentencing & Incarceration Project, and during the 2007 state legislative session, Yáñez-Correa was formally honored by the Texas House of Representatives and Texas State Senate for her work on criminal justice reform. More recently, her work has been instrumental in educating key stakeholders about the importance of adopting policies on prison diversion, probation and parole reform, fair defense, re-entry, and overall criminal and juvenile justice efficiency.
